A reface lives or dies on the substrate and the layout. Veneer set over a poorly prepped, dirty, or sealed surface delaminates and drops stones within a year; veneer laid out without planning leaves ugly cut slivers in the wrong places and inconsistent joints. We prep the substrate properly, plan the coursing and corner returns so the pattern reads naturally, and set each piece for consistent joints and a true plane. Natural stone is selected and dry-laid for color and size distribution so the finished wall looks composed rather than random.

What separates a mason's reface from a decorator's is clearance. The zone around a working firebox carries code-required clearances to combustibles, and the veneer, any mantel, and any added trim all have to respect them. We honor the non-combustible clearances around the opening, set a mantel at the correct distance from the firebox — hidden steel cleats or float brackets where the design calls for a floating beam — and make sure nothing about the new face compromises the fireplace's safe operation.
