A new gas fireplace adds ambiance and heat to a DFW home with much less maintenance than a wood-burning unit — direct-vent and ventless options both have their place, and the right choice depends on your home and your usage. Space Fireplace Services handles this work across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex following NFPA 211 standards. Free inspection, written quote, no surprise fees.
What’s actually involved
Fireplace installation covers three appliance types: wood-burning (traditional masonry or prefab), gas (vented, ventless, or direct-vent), and electric (no venting, plug-in or hardwired). Each has different installation requirements, cost ranges, and code considerations.
Wood-burning installs are the most involved — require Class A chimney chase, firebox framing per code, hearth extension, and combustion air supply. Gas direct-vent is the most common modern installation: prefab firebox, sealed venting through an exterior wall, no chimney chase needed. Electric is the simplest — no venting, no combustion air, finishes around it like a TV mount.
We handle the full installation including framing, venting, gas line (if needed), electrical (if needed), surround/mantle finish, and final code inspection. Permit pulled and included in scope.
We don’t install only — we also consult on what type makes sense for your home, your usage, and your budget. Some installs (e.g., a fireplace in an open-concept kitchen-living room) need design input as much as installation skill.
Why this matters in DFW specifically
DFW’s mild winters mean fireplaces are typically supplemental heat, not primary heat — which changes the right type for most installs. Direct-vent gas installs are by far the most popular new installations in DFW because they offer ambiance without the maintenance of wood-burning, and they’re code-compliant in the tight envelopes of new construction. Wood-burning new installs are rare; wood-burning replacement of existing installs is more common.

Frequently asked questions
Which type is right for my home?
Direct-vent gas is the most common modern install. Wood-burning is for heavy use and where venting permits. Electric is for situations where venting isn’t possible (apartments, some renovations).
Do I need a chimney for a gas fireplace?
Direct-vent gas does NOT need a chimney — it vents through an exterior wall. B-vent gas does need a chimney chase. Electric needs no venting at all.
How long does an install take?
Direct-vent gas: 2-4 days. Insert install: 1-2 days. Electric: 1 day. Wood-burning prefab: 5-10 days. Custom masonry: 3-6 weeks.
Will I need a permit?
Yes — virtually all fireplace installs require permits in DFW municipalities. We pull the permit, included in the quote.
Can the new fireplace match my existing decor?
Yes — we coordinate on surround materials, mantle style, and hearth treatment. Provide photos of inspirational installs and we’ll quote materials to match.
